Toad 11 months old
**Toad**
Polinard Mill of Fortune for Zarcrest  x  Zarcrest Black Classic
Date of Birth: November 17th, 2008
Colour: Black & Cream
Weight at 1 year of age: 10.8 pounds (4.9 kg)

"Toad" made his way to Canada from Zarcrest Dachshunds in Wales, UK just as winter was preparing to turn into spring, March 2009. A glitch in paperwork saw Toad spend his first twenty-four hours in his new country "in jail" awaiting extradition. However, through the superb efforts of the Zarcrest family's veterinarian we were able to correct the error and Toad made his way to his new home almost a full day after landing on Canadian soil.

In true Dachshund fashion Toad spent the ensuing months playing, sleeping and eating in between digging monstrous holes and swinging on the lower branches of the tree found in his playground. Yes, we have one girl who climbs this tree, Ella, but Toad is the first who can claim using an overhanging branch to play Tarzan!

It wasn't until near the end of the summer that we felt Toad was ready to be introduced to the show ring. His brother, Slug, who remained in Wales with breeder Zara Boyle, had won a number of honours already including his first CC. Toad wasn't bothered by the big dogs or all those strangers milling around however it was his kennel-mate Boo that came home with the Reserve on the first day and the Winners Dog the next day. It was a wonderful experience for all and we learned that our lovely Toad-Man could do with just a bit more trimming so that his excellent movement could be seen

Just as winter was about to set in Toad was off to his next show week-end, the last of the year for us. Toad, along with Star for company, wasn't too sure of this noisy, echoing building but he trotted out his stuff like a pro coming home with two Best of Winners worth two championship points each. Our marvelous young fellow showed he has what it takes!

Early summer 2010 Toad and Star once again hit the ring. Oft times Toad had to take a back seat to his kennel-mate who went on to garner her Canadian title in style taking Best Bred By Exhibitor in Group. During the balance of the summer Toad and Meme hit the shows, both acquitting themselves well. Meme tooks five championship points the next few week-ends of showing and Toad finished his title the end of August 2010. Well done Toad!
