Although beautifully put together Bert hated the "show scene" and refused - most comically in retrospect - to put himself on display. Even though not the ultimate show-dog Bert was, in his youth, a wonderful ambassador for the breed having participated in many local Christmas Parades with "Aaron" (Ch Pamadron Aaron - standard longhaired) and smooching up to any visitor that should grace his doorstep. Today Bert prefers relaxing on the sofa with the occasional foray to the food bowl for exercise.

Bert, pictured above at twelve and a half years young, continues to be a wonderful ambassador for the breed greeting everyone who comes to the house in full voice. He's beginning to feel the cold and damp but just have a spoon rattle on the side of a bowl! He can still move if there's a good reason to. Bert has never mastered the fact that in the rock/scissors/paper world of dogs and cars that cars will always win. Should a car be coming up the drive when he's there he will not move out of the way. Many a time we've had company stop in the middle of the drive until one of us goes to remove Bert out of harm's way - what a silly boy he can be!

Fall 2008. Bert's now almost fourteen years old; slowing down just a tad and looking a bit sad in his new "sheared" look. An unauthorized romp in the early days of fall had Bert coming home full of burrs, barely able to walk with the fur bunched up and fastened tight around his leg. There was nothing for it but to take the clippers to the old fella'. Thank Heavens there's time before the snow flies for some of his luxurious coat to grow back in!
